Mold: Is Your House Making You Sick?

Posted by Chris Atkinson on 16 March, 2016

Mold evokes fear in all of us. From the dangerous health effects it causes, to taking over our homes, we've all heard about it. It creeps up in the grout lines of your shower, shows up as black spots on siding, darkens decks, ruins drywall and rots damp wood everywhere. The minute we see or smell it we panic. The microscopic spores in the infested area immediately set off allergic reactions such as sneezing and runny noses. Worry sets in about the safety of our family. Almost all homes have some type of mold, so the trick is to learn how to identify it and stop it before the infestation gets out of control.

First, figure out how bad of a mold problem you have. Mildew is a surface type of mold that won't damage your home's structure. But other types of mold cause rot. Probe the suspect area with a screwdriver or other sharp tool. If the wood is soft or crumbles, the fungi have taken hold and rot has begun.

Also, you may have a high concentration of mold that you can smell. If you detect the typical musty odor, check for mold on damp carpets, damp walls, damp crawlspaces and wet wood under your floors, wet roof sheathing and other damp areas. You must clean up these infestations right away before they get worse.

So now that you have a mold infestation, what do you do? You can easily remove surface mildew and mold stain on any surface by simply spraying RMR-86 directly onto the surface. Within seconds the mold stain will disappear. No scrubbing is needed. Once you have removed the stain, treat the area with RMR Botanical to prevent future growth and kill the mold and mildew. It has superior penetration into porous substances such as wood, concrete, drywall and fabric. Both of these products come in the DIY Bundle with Free Shipping.

Bigger infestation may require professional help, particularly if you are an allergy sufferer or have a weakened immune system. If you choose to do it yourself, we recommend you read our protocol for using RMR-86 and strictly follow the procedure.
